Brenda coached me on several thought patterns surrounding a weight gain. I was being pretty hard on myself and she helped shift my focus to self-compassion. I began questioning my repetitive (well practiced) judgement thoughts. Were these thoughts really true? No. She showed me how to acknowledge the emotions I was feeling. There was a shift to reframe my thoughts from, "I have to do something" to "I get to do something." The sessions with Brenda were very healing. I was frustrated and bored with the endless dieting cycle: deprivation, losing weight and gaining it back, so I decided to work with Brenda.
She consistently challenged my thoughts about food, dieting, restriction, and working out. We used facts not feelings to actually figure out the best foods and exercise goals for me. With her guidance and support, I can now confidently navigate vacations, desserts, and social events, all the way to my goal. I now work out because I really enjoy it and not to punish myself for overeating.
